Senior Instructional and Digital Accessibility Specialist | Educator | UDL and EdTech Advocate
Wendolyn (Wendy) Vélez-Torres is a dedicated educator and instructional technology leader with over 24 years of experience in K-12 and higher education. She currently serves as the Senior Instructional and Digital Accessibility Specialist and Adjunct Instructor at Coppin State University, where she leads strategic initiatives to enhance digital learning environments, promote universal design for learning (UDL), and ensure accessibility compliance across instructional materials and online courses.
A passionate advocate for equitable education, Wendy has a strong record of faculty engagement, professional development, and curriculum innovation. She has designed and facilitated training for over 150 faculty members annually, integrating emerging technologies to improve student engagement and digital inclusion. Her leadership in digital accessibility has positioned her as a key contributor to statewide initiatives, including the University System of Maryland’s Digital Accessibility Working Group and Alternative Credentials Task Force.
Wendy is Quality Matters Certified, a Microsoft Innovative Educator, and a Blackboard Certified Practitioner. Her technical skills span multiple LMS platforms, including Blackboard, Canvas, D2L, and Moodle, along with expertise in instructional technologies, assistive tools, and WCAG accessibility compliance. In her role, she conducts digital accessibility audits, supports procurement processes, and develops strategic accessibility plans aligned with institutional goals.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Wendy is a doctoral candidate in the Ed.D. program at Frostburg State University, with a targeted graduation date of Spring 2026. Her research focuses on how targeted faculty development interventions influence digital accessibility outcomes, reflecting her commitment to advancing inclusive education through research-based practice.
Wendy has presented at numerous national and regional conferences, held leadership roles with the Online Learning Consortium (OLC), and served on steering committees for innovative educational events. She is also a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps Reserve, where she earned multiple commendations for her service.
Through every phase of her career, Wendy has remained focused on empowering educators, improving student learning experiences, and advocating for inclusive and accessible digital environments.
